Wow, glad you did not get hurt.
I hope the park will be able to afford to make the repairs the The Blue Streak. With out the coaster, I don't think the park has a chance. Look at what happened to Idora! |

| Quote: | Lightning hits near Blue Streak
CONNEAUT LAKE PARK — Nobody was injured in a late afternoon fire when the motor of the Blue Streak was struck by lightning about 4:25 p.m. and the motor caught fire, according to LeRoy Stearns, court-appointed overseer. He said the structure of the wooden roller coaster, built in the 1930s, was not on fire. |
Glad to see that nobody was hurt and the damage wasn't more severe. The park seems to have dodged a bullet today. I thought the same thing that Bull did when i first read Ken's post. Idora would probably still be around today if they hadn't lost the Wildcat.
Hopefully CLP won't run into any complications with the repairs. This is probably the worst time of the summer for the Blue Streak to be down. The Blue Streak Challenge is coming up on Monday & the big holiday weekend is only a week away.
Today's Tribune has more information...

On a more positive note, the Tribune's site has some photos from Wednesday night's community appreciation night. It looks like the event was a hit. The Devil's Den queue was full and there was even a big line at the Toboggan. We'll probably never see that again

an update from the Tribune....
| Quote: | Blue Streak remains out of service
By Keith Gushard
06/23/2006 —
The Blue Streak roller coaster at Conneaut Lake Park will be out of service at least until the middle of next week, according to George Deshner, the park’s director of operations.
The coaster’s 75-horsepower electric motor was damaged Thursday by a lightning strike.
While the rest of the park is open and operational, the spare motor for the Blue Streak must be reconditioned before it can be used, Deshner said. The motor won’t be ready until the middle of next week, Deshner said.
The Blue Streak Challenge, a fund-raiser for the roller coaster, that was scheduled for Monday has been postponed until July 17. |

The official CLP website says that the Blue Streak is back up and running again. Also, the newest blog entry on the site says that the Bug & Train are still tenatively scheduled to reopen sometime this weekend. It's nice to see some things going "as planned" for once.
This past weekend the park lowered it's weekend ride pass price to the weekday price due to the Blue Streak being down. That's yet another example of something CLP does better than some of the bigger parks. You don't see a place like Cedar Point lowering it's rates when certain main attractions aren't running. |

Glad to see everything is coming together for the fourth. I am also glad to see you are having a good trip Petruzzi. I will be there as planned on the fourth with a few friends. We are running up to the spillway before we come down to the park. I'll be wearing my Camden Park shirt!!! _________________ Please be sure to check into volunteer weekend to help Conneaut in the fall or in the spring!!! |
