Unfortunetly the Ultimate Trip building has collapsed. I saw an email from Kelly Sunday night of the building. A friend of mine went to the park Monday of this week and said it is still falling. The center of the roof fell in and the front of the building seems to be leaning back towards the middle and is still crumblind into itself. The "lake" side of the building is wiped out also. The only "good" thing about this is that if the front falls back, that is better than falling into the midway. Further, the houses behind the building do not seem damaged from the fall. The gentleman who operates the Kaylee Belle said they heard the building "creaking" Saturday afternoon and knew it was about to go. You can see in the pic they had wood bracings up attempting to hold the building up. This is so frustrating to see these things happening!
I also heard more about the movie deal. They want the park looking the way it does now, thus the delay in cleaning up the ballroom. The movie is called "The Road" and is an apocolyptic movie. You can find more details at www.imdb.com _________________ Please be sure to check into volunteer weekend to help Conneaut in the fall or in the spring!!! |

I saw the damage and it is really bad. I just ope it does fall onto t's self rather than the midway. _________________ 2010 Cedar Point - Ripcord Site Controller |

This is not good news.
I hate to say this, but it sounds like the park itself is starting to just roll-over and give up.
Sad. _________________ Proud CLP patron since 1968

| Does the park still own the "Scrambler" that was housed in the Ultimate Trip building? Or was it sold off? |

| Last I knew, it was in "storage". When they went to reinstall it after removing from the building, they weren't able to reassemble it due to the center bearing being bad. At that point it was a 26 week delivery on the bearing, which would have been the whole season. I believe that was the 2005 season (I could be wrong--maybe 2006), but it never came back. |

They brought it out of the building and began to install it in 2005 in the spot where the Witch's Stew is now, but it was put away because of the mechanucal peoblems stated above. I heard they were going to trade the Yoyo for another newer Scrambler, but I don't know what happened with that. _________________ myself, AKA andy_e219

I didn't know this but the park still has many parts of the yoyo. They have the arms, seats, YO-YO sign down the center, and other various parts. The scrambler is still owned by the park and is in storage. I think the plan for the trade fell through. _________________ Please be sure to check into volunteer weekend to help Conneaut in the fall or in the spring!!! |

| There are a few postings on the Meadville Tribune CLP forum of the Ultimate Trip building collapsing (again?) and possibley injuring a structure next to it in the process. Anyone have anything on this one? |

| yes, the back wall fell in, apparently from the weight of the snow. It fell into the house directly behind/beside it, falling thru the wall/windows into the house.... |

Such a loss to see this building! And whats really sad is unlike Dreamland, with some preventative maint this could have been avoided. Younger folks may say its just an old building let it go, but I look at it as another piece of the Park's history crumbling away. I am not old enough to remember the days when it was a bath house nor a bowling alley. But I do remember as a kid the Fun House days. With the lines of people waiting to venture inside to experience the slanted room, moving walking boards, the mirror room and "the slide" to name a few. It was one of the anchors of the midway and also housed Pull the Strings and Over and Under games as well. Years later when Jimmyt and I worked at the Park, the long lines were back only this time waiting to get into ride the Ultimate Trip.
Think how great it would have been to have it intact and usable during the Ghost Lake weekends!
At the volunteer clean up in Oct, I ran into Greg Sutterlin and mentioned that it would be a great spot to house the ride he bought a couple of years ago and help shore up the fading Midway. He smiled and said he had a similar thought but said a new floor would have to be put in to handle the weight. But that was before more of the building came down. Maybe the front facade can be preserved and a new building built around it or maybe it will all be down before long, only time will tell.
So much that needs to be done and can be done! I mention at the clean up to both Greg and to Jack Moyers that there are people like me that want to do more if they would organize it.
Just my 2 cents |
