CONNEAUT LAKE — If you were planning to hit the Beach Club at Conneaut Lake Park over the July 4 weekend, it’s time to make other plans.
The popular entertainment venue at the currently-closed, financially-troubled amusement park won’t be open for the holiday, according to Jack Moyers, chairman of the Trustees of Conneaut Lake Park.
“We are cautiously optimistic,” he said Tuesday about the possibility of opening the public tavern before the summer is over.
Man, i wish they knew what they were doing... _________________ Proud CLP patron since 1968

During the cleanup weekend, Jack Moyers sounded hopeful about getting the Beach Club open by 4th of July. He said it would cost $40,000-$50,000 and later he said the park has almost no money. He also said somthing about the health department and the Beach Club ceiling. A lot of the tiles were falling off and there were many large holes in it. It looks as though it would have to be replaced or repaired. _________________ myself, AKA andy_e219

With the money they're putting in the bar they could have used it to plan some festivals or car shows or other outside events where the whole family could come down an get some hamburgers, hot dogs and park fries (i could be happy going to the park and eating fries all day) and have fun. They have the free act lawn and plenty of parking. Why don't they utilize the resources that don't require $50,000 of repairs. Also with one time events they won't need any employees to hire because theirs enough volunteers willing to help out and then the whole community would be able to use the park.
Now having events might not make the big money but i think it would make more money then the bar. Their acting like they never opened the bar by its self before and that it will save the park. Well i have news for everyone. The bar was open last year and it never made the park any money. Thats why they never told us any numbers from last year. Why would you waste all your time, energy, and money into something that has been proven not to work?
The one thing i agree with Jack Moyers is that this situation is like a roller coaster ride but to get the lift hill running again they'll have to change their 5 year plan(BTW technically we're in year 2 of the 5 year plan,3 more years before the park is back up and running!). _________________ Randall

Two years into their 5 yr plan and what are they doing? Camperland made money last year, but where did it go?
I thought this 'new' board was formed about a year ago... ???
The seasonals there did all the grass cutting and general maintenance according the the Erie and Trib papers.
I like the idea of using the lawn, though. Makes more sense than opening the beach club. _________________ Proud CLP patron since 1968

My understanding is that the ballroom fire took out the public restrooms that were at that end of the Midway. Getting the Beach Club open then gives them public restrooms available and open for use during events on the lawn.
I guess theoretically they could bring in portapotties for events, but that would add another up-front cost to having any event and would be an expense rather than an investment. |

Last time i checked renting portapotties cost less then $50,000.
But thats not the point. Obliviously anything you do with the park is going to have its challenges. Thats why the board is there to help overcome those challenges. And what I stated was a broad idea, which is probably how the bar plan started. and as you start actually executing an idea your going to run into problems but you think when they realized that it would take $50,000 worth of repairs to get the bar open that they would say lets go back to the drawing board and see if we can come up with a better idea. Have the board members actually walked through the park? When i walked through the park in March despite the wreckage from the fire all i could see is hows theres SO much opportunity's for the park. But maybe another difference between me and the board is that when the park was open i would ride the rides and enjoy the events like a BBQ competition in the free act lawn:
While the board members would enjoy more adult oriented fun, like the beach club. Which shows us another problem about the board and even this forum, everything that is done with the park is opinionated. But I feel that some opinions are better then others. _________________ Randall

Does anyone know if the Beach Club and Down Under will be open for business and serving beer this coming weekend?
Also any word on a DJ at the Down Under when it opens? |

I've asked the same question a few different place regarding hours and such.
I haven't heard anything yet. _________________ Proud CLP patron since 1968

Does anyone know what the holiday weekend schedule looks like for the Beach Club/Down Under?
Will there be any bands or entertainment on Saturday or Sunday night?
I know the Down Under is scheduled to be open for the weekend after for Thunder on the Lake, and they also have the Hern Brothers playing that Saturday. |
